How often should I change my foundation?

The simple answer is if you have found a great product that works for you stick with it! There is no need to change if your skin is responding and the colour and coverage both suits you and is the look that you are after.
I recently changed my foundation after using the same one for the last 10x years (the one before that I also used for 10x years until it was discontinued!), for a few reasons -
the formula changed and it was less coverage than I wanted and was used to.
my hair became lighter so I needed a lighter shade, however when I tried the lighter shade it was still not correct. I ended up mixing two foundations together to get the correct colour and a slightly fuller coverage (it was fun at first and then it became too much fuss!).
my skin changed and I wanted more hydration and greater sun protection.
There are five things I look for in a foundation
Colour - what is the underlying pigment in your skin, do you use sun-less tanning products, or tan naturally and therefore it changes throughout the seasons or applications?
Coverage - do you like it light, medium or full coverage?
Finish - do you like it to be dewy, matte, have a natural glow or somewhere in between (is your skin dry, sensitive, acne prone, oily or a combination)?
Sun protection - I don't like to have to use a seperate sun protection I want it in my makeup.
Ingredients - I have lots of sensitivities so I like to educate myself on what is on the ingredient list and where the ingredients are derived from.
I just recently switched from a tinted moisturiser plus a mineral powder to a liquid foundation. In the past I have found liquid foundation too drying for my skin however I am currently loving the new Skintuition SPF 30 Radiance-Boosting Liquid Foundation by Jane Iredale - let me know if you would like me to do a product review on it.
Lots of love,
